There's so much to do!
Discover Parks has the enormous advantage of not only being located in such beautiful surroundings, but there's always so much to do and see. With castles and rivers, hill walking and valleys, golf courses and fishing lakes. There's National Trust properties, beautiful Tudor villages and Welsh market towns. You can cycle or walk the lanes and bridleways with stunning scenery and history galore. All of that, plus a huge selection of local food and drink producers who's products you can find stocked in many outlets.
So, here's just a quick taster of some of the fantastic experiences on offer when you stay at any of our three Discover Parks.
Golf
Nearby there are some of the best courses in the Midlands:
The Herefordshire Golf Club at Wormsley is a visual treat. Spectacular, challenging and physically demanding - a gem of a course.
Burghill maybe a course for the big-hitter, but we all know that's no good if it's not straight! Everything to test you is here including unsighted tee shots, water and tricky bunkers. Positional play is key. Look out for demoralising long second shots that still fall short of the green!
The links-like course at Kington, is the highest course in the country. With no sand, no trees and no water it's easy to think this is a push-over. No matter how you play, the greens are exceptional, the views are stunning and there is no other place quite like it.
Leominster has a couple of courses - a hilly 18 hole epic at Leominster Golf Club and just next door, two fascinating 9 hole outings at The Grove - professionally landscaped with outstanding stone and water features.
There are plenty more courses nearby with Ludlow, Cleobury, Rolls of Monmouth, Builth, Sapey... honestly, if golf is your game then staying with us puts you in the heart of some fine courses.
If you choose to stay at Discover Parks there's a very challenging, recently re-designed, 9-hole golf course at Pearl Lake. In the heart of the park, the Pearl Lake course requires accuracy and a great short game to score low. But whatever your level, it's a great course with some amazing views.
The course is exclusive to guests and owners. Holiday home owners at Pearl Lake have free unlimited access. It's free to play if you're staying in self-catering accommodation at Pearl Lake. There's a small fee if you're staying on the touring area at Pearl Lake or if you're a guest at Arrow Bank or Rockbridge.
Fishing
5 star caravan site with river and lake fishing
Each of our parks has private fishing on it. Whether it be the majestic lake setting of Pearl Lake or the more intimate river locations at Arrow Bank and Rockbridge, it is reassuring for a fisherman to know that the next cast is just a stones throw away. The specimen lake has large carp and tench but you have to stalk them, outwit them, this is no fishery where the bites are guaranteed!
Arrow Bank and Rockbridge boast locations on the banks of the River Arrow and the River Lugg respectively. Quiet locations for trout and grayling, maybe some dace and chub. Either way a very pleasant time awaits.
Farther afield there is the spectacular River Wye and River Teme, fisheries at Froggatts (Ludlow) and Red Lion Piscators (Shobdon) all offering a great experience to add to your holiday.
Rambling and walking in North Herefordshire and the Welsh border
Is there anything better than a country stroll, finishing off at a nice cafe, maybe even a local hostlery?
It always astounds me just how much there is to explore in this area. Woodland walks, high ridges, river valleys. The borders really does have it all. A great way to get off the beaten track and get back in touch with nature. Each park has a dog wash, so there's no excuse for muddy paws on the carpet afterwards! The team know the area really well and are a mine of information when you need the perfect walk
At Rockbridge we are very close to Offa's Dyke, a 176-mile (283 km) long-distance footpath that runs between Liverpool Bay in the north and the Severn Estuary in the south. There is the Mortimer Trail running from Ludlow to Kington, crossing rivers and forested ridges. Maybe you can tread in the historical footsteps.
National Trust
A stately home, a fortified house, superb commons and hush-quiet woodland. Discover Parks are surrounded by this incredible array of National Trust properties and parks. Easy parking, and quintessential English afternoons can be spent for a quieter time during your stay with us.
Croft Castle an impressive fortified home in woodland setting. A great cafe and walking amongst ancient trees, woodland playground and the beautiful Fishpool Valley. There is also Berrington Hall, a remarkable stately home; Bircher Common - just about as good as ancient woodland can get; and miles and miles of countryside.
Outside of the Trust there is Queenswood (Woodland Trust), Hampton Castle Court and Gardens (15th Century), Bodenham Lake ( a wildlife haven), Bradnor Hill, the list goes on and on.
Stunning Wales
Across the border, but not so far as you spend most of the day in the car, Wales is quite breath-taking.
Must see places include Elan Valley, a series of valleys flooded (1893-1904) to supply water for Birmingham. A special place has been created in the process. There is a visitor centre, scenic drives through the valleys, walking, cycling, bird watching... you know it might just have it all!
Waterfall Country in the Brecon Beacons takes you to another world. Deep wooded valleys where the river has cut its' way through the soft limestone creating cascades and pools in a mystical setting.
Hay on Wye, visit the second hand book capital of the world. Home to the famous Hay Festival it is a beautiful town to visit and enjoy a slower pace of life.
Numerous Welsh market towns are dotted along the journey; Knighton, Builth Wells, Llandrindod, Rhayader, each offering something different.
Towns and cities
Historic Hereford is right on your doorstep. Everything here from the Mappa Mundi, Hereford Cathedral, riverside walks great cafes and independent shops.
The Black and White Village Trail. This is where I run out of superlatives. See remarkable buildings in picture postcard villages. Spend some time taking a step back in time and remember how lovely it can be living a simpler life. A 'must see' if you are staying at Discover Parks.
Ludlow, a beautiful castle town set on a hill above the River Teme. Passing time in Ludlow is like being in another world; slower, easier, friendlier - just like staying at Discover Parks.
Presteigne, less than a mile from Rockbridge Park, is a small, friendly Welsh market town where there always seems to be something going on.
Nearby Leominster
The nearest town to the parks is Leominster. Pronounced 'Lem-ster' it is a fascinating old market town that has many alleyways and historic buildings. There are coffee shops and antique shops, bric-a-bracs and independents, all waiting to be discovered. Leominster Priory, the Museum, the Grange all have an amazing history.
On top of this, Leominster has all the essentials you need - a choice of super markets, a bus and train station giving great access, along with petrol stations and a cracking weekend car boot sale.
There's so much more and the great part is, there really is something for everyone. A quick round of golf before breakfast; a relaxing trip to one of the local towns for lunch and coffee; maybe a riverside walk in the afternoon or just passing the time with a good book and a glass of wine into the evening before heading out to a fantastic choice of local pubs and restaurants. This is proof that there is no such thing as 'too much of a good thing'!
There's only one way to find out...
